Wells, Maine
A cluster of low-key rooms, studios and cabins just off Post Road in Wells, Drakes Island Resort keeps things refreshingly simple: an outdoor pool, a picnic area with BBQs, and a free shuttle that runs guests down to the beach. It's the kind of unfussy coastal Maine base where the day's plan is decided by the tide, and dinner is whatever's going on the grill. With 139 reviews averaging 4.7, it clearly earns the loyalty of returning summer families.
